The aim is to describe the non-farm income diversification in the Preservation Zone of Mexico City and particularly, to show the impacts of sustainable activities in the social, natural and economic resources in San Nicolas Totolapan, pointing out the role of the Management Unit for Wildlife Conservation (UMA). Interviews were carried out to members of the park and government stakeholders. Results show that the UMA has positive effects in the conservation of the managed species, except in the habitat which depends on the communitarian reserve. The economic impact is positive but no sufficient. The social impact is positive because the organization of the community has been improved, and there is increased participation of other members. Sustainable productive diversification in the rural zone of the Preservation Zone of Mexico City has a positive impact that has contributed to retain the urbanization process.
