Abstract
MARTINEZ MARTINEZ, Óscar Alfonso; CAMPILLO TOLEDANO, Claudia and COGCO CALDERON, Adolfo Rogelio. High energy density food consumption by beneficiaries of Oportunidades Program: Monterrey metropolitan area case. Estud. soc [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.39, pp.185-206. ISSN 0188-4557.
The Mexican government Oportunidades program provides its beneficiaries with a cash monthly allowance for food consumption and education, aimed to foster human capital. In-home use of such resources is not subjected to any control mechanism, therefore they might be used for unhealthy food choices. Such was the framework to analyze the consumption of three energy dense foodstuff (cookies, soft drinks and chips) by individuals either covered or not by this program. Results show no significant differences in consumption and high intake rates of such products between both groups.
