Abstract

HERNANDEZ-CHAVARRIA, Juana. The Mexican Aeronautical Industry: An Analysis of the Composition of Foreign Trade from 2000-2020. Econ: teor. práct [online]. 2023, n.59, pp.131-161.  Epub Oct 30, 2023. ISSN 2448-7481.  https://doi.org/10.24275/etypuam/ne/592023/hernandez.

The objective of this work is to analyze the behavior of the Mexican aeronautical industry in terms of the composition of the trade balance in the period from 2000 to 2020, in accordance with the New Theory of International Trade (NTCI). The un Comtrade Database of the United Nations Organization was used. The classifications corresponding to aircraft inputs and final products are analyzed, as well as the countries with which they are being traded. The results show that exports of inputs reflect greater dynamism with aircraft parts, propellers, rotors, rotor blades, undercarriages, and spacecraft parts, with a 425% growth compared to the year 2000, while imports grew by 44%. Mexico has trade relations with 76 countries, with greater interaction with the United States, although China and Latin American countries also appear.

Keywords : Foreign trade; trade balance; aeronautics; Mexico.
