Abstract

NUNEZ, César A.. The Persistence of Ambiguity: Unforseen Lessons by Comino (about Comino vence al diablo, by Germán List Arzubide). Lit. mex [online]. 2017, vol.28, n.2, pp.63-94. ISSN 2448-8216.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.litmex.28.2.2017.933.

This essay analyses the guignol play Comino vence al diablo, by Germán List Arzurbide, with the purpose to study the aesthetic changes produced in his work during the decade of 1930. This play was, among other things, a fundamental -and exemplary- text in the Guignol Theatre of Fine Arts (Bellas Artes). The analysis will allow, at the same time, to go over the complex movement of the vanguards in the previous decade (1920) towards the committed art developed by this author (and so many other artists with a similar trajectory) in the next decade, and to propose to some extent an explanation for the ruptures and continuities of this transit.

Keywords : guignol; avant-garde; political commitment; Mexico; estridentismo.
