Abstract

AYALA TAFOYA, Eduardo. Heriberto Frías and the Literary-Pedagogical Version of the Conspiracy of the Marquis of the Valley. Lit. mex [online]. 2016, vol.27, n.1, pp.55-74. ISSN 2448-8216.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.litmex.27.1.2016.882.

The Porfirian era conducted an educational reform in elementary school in which History was to play a leading role, and books were needed to support the teaching. Heriberto Frías (1870-1925) wrote a collection of history books for children entitled “Biblioteca del Niño Mexicano”. Strongly inspired by liberal principles, the books dealt with important historical events in Mexico and intended to create a sense of national identity among the students. The present study discusses the highly ideological baggage in one of such books: La conspiración del marqués del Valle.

Keywords : Heriberto Frías; Biblioteca del Niño Mexicano; Liberalism; Pedagogical literature.
