Abstract

CASTELLANOS GONELLA, Carolina. The Poetical discourse in Noticias del imperio: the lyrical subject and History. Lit. mex [online]. 2012, vol.23, n.1, pp.83-104. ISSN 2448-8216.

This essay analyzes the chapters narrated by Carlota in Fernando del Paso's novel Noticias del imperio. The prominence and language used by Carlota transform her into a lyrical subject. This lyrical subject establishes a poetic discourse, which she uses to review and revisit events around the Second Mexican Empire. This essay contends that the poetic discourse is, in itself, a literary form that critically and symbolically approaches and analyzes the historical past. In particular, this historical revision rescues and values the experience of a traditionally marginalized character-Carlota.

Keywords : lyrical subject; poetic discourse; Noticias del imperio; Carlota from Mexico; madness.
