The article analizes the always significant fact that six great Latin American poets have written a poem with identical title, "Arte poética," in not more than fifty years (five of them in a period barely longer than three decades: between 1916 and 1949): Vicente Huidobro, Alfonso Reyes, Pablo Neruda, Manuel Bandeira, Jaime Torres Bodet and Jorge Luis Borges. It proposes that we consider the concept of "Arte poética" as a sub-genre and a function which overrides the 19th century function of precepts.
