Abstract

HURTADO, Guillermo. An antecedent of El Espectador: critiques of the Mexican Revolution in 1959. Lit. mex [online]. 2010, vol.21, n.2, pp.15-25. ISSN 2448-8216.

In the 1959 January/February issue of Cuadernos Americanos, a questionnaire appeared on the situation of the Mexican Revolution and about the role of intellectuals. Participants in that questionnaire included Víctor Flores Olea, Carlos Fuentes, Enrique González Pedrero, Francisco López Cámara, Jaime García Terrés, José Luis Martínez, Jorge Portilla, Emilio Uranga, Leopoldo Zea. This work compares the positions of the group Hiperión with those of the group El Espectador, giving special attention to the opinions of the second group toward the Revolution and its role, as well as intellectuals, in the renovation of said movement.

Keywords : Mexican Revolution; intellectuals; Hiperión; El Espectador.
