Abstract

THOMPSON, John B.. Los límites cambiantes de la vida pública y la privada. Comun. soc [online]. 2011, n.15, pp.11-42. ISSN 0188-252X.

The proliferation of new communication technologies today, forces us to reconsider the nature of the public and the private and the changing relations between them. In contemporary societies the boundaries between public and private are blurred and constantly shifting. Thompson uses his social theory of the media to develop a fresh perspective on the public-private distinction, and in which the boundaries that do exist at any point in time are porous, con testable and subject to constant negotiation and struggle, a situation illustrated very vividly by the phenomenon of political scandal.

Keywords : Public sphere; private sphere; political scandal; new communication technologies; social theory of the media.
