PRUD’HOMME, Jean-François. Democracy, political representation and populism. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2023, vol.85, n.spe2, pp.123-140.  Epub Sep 30, 2023. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2023.2ne.60985.

In recent years, the debate about representative democracy has returned to the center of public discussion. For some authors, it reveals a deep crisis of representative democracy. For others, it shows that democracy is going through a period of adaptation and regeneration. The emergence of populist movements, from the right and left, in different regions of the world is one of the manifestations of the turbulences of democracy. This article explores the linkages between populism and representative democracy.

Keywords : democracy; representation; populism; republicanism; checks-and-balance.
