Abstract

SUAZO, Martha Lorena  and  CRUZ, Kevin Alberto. Violence against children and adolescents in Honduras. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2022, vol.84, n.3, pp.653-683.  Epub Aug 01, 2022. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2022.3.60321.

Different forms of violence experienced by children and adolescents in Honduras were identified through a questionnaire applied to 943 selected adolescents aged 13-15 from educational centers nationwide. Property damage, verbal abuse, physical assault, sexual harassment, and exposure to street violence are the most frequent forms of victimization. Honduran children and adolescents experience high levels of daily violence, normalized by an adult-centric paradigm that makes this problem invisible and reinforced by children’s and adolescents’ subordination to the adult world.

Keywords : Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire; childhood and adolescence; child victimization; violence; Honduras.
