Abstract

NARDACCHIONE, Gabriel. American pragmatism and the French pragmatic sociology: A late affinity?. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2021, vol.83, n.4, pp.961-986.  Epub Dec 13, 2021. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article seeks to define the profile of the socio-technical perspective of the so-called French pragmatic sociology epitomized by Bruno Latour. As a methodological strategy, its main arguments are articulated with American pragmatism. The article demonstrates the existence of a “late” affinity between the two theories, especially in relation to five aspects: a non-hierarchical ontology, an empiricist and anti-dogmatic epistemology, an ordinary and processual conception of practices and social knowledge, a perspectivism at the basis of scientific knowledge, and a conception of truth in relation to practical ends.

Keywords : pragmatism; Latour; truth; tests; fallibilism; pluralistic universe.
