Abstract

JIMENEZ ALBORNOZ, Juan Ignacio. Approaches to the contraposition between Action and Structure in Social Theory. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2018, vol.80, n.2, pp.293-321. ISSN 2594-0651.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2018.2.57719.

Theoretical evolution in recent decades can be understood as an exploration of various alternatives to solve the contraposition between action and structure. In the former, the structure is located within the actor, and the actor within the structure. In the latter, it is explored to maintain the distinction between the elements but as related elements. Another way to avoid dualism is historicism, particularly relevant in Latin America. A fourth way is to explore a relational perspective emphasizing the notion of network. Through those alternatives it is possible to observe a movement of constructing knowledge in social theory.

Keywords : social theory; action; structure.
