Abstract
PONT VIDAL, Josep. Strategy and social movements: The hydroelectric plant of the Brazilian Amazonia. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2015, vol.77, n.2, pp.243-273. ISSN 2594-0651.
The construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant in western Amazonia (Pará, Brazil) has led to the emergence of social movements with opposing goals. The starting point of this text is the theory of strategic action fields developed by Neil Fligstein and Doug McAdam, in the aspects of competitive dynamics, governance units and organization. The goals of the actors and social movements analyzed go beyond the mere suspension of the hydroelectric plant and propose a new model of social and sustainable development.
Keywords : theory of strategic action fields; actors; social movements.
