Abstract

PALACIOS, Rosario. What does being an "informal worker" mean? Revisions from an athnographic research project. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2011, vol.73, n.4, pp.591-616. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article seeks to provide a critical view of the concept of informal work by exploring the everyday lives of various workers. It shows how the deficiencies of the theoretical reflections on this issue have reduced social scientists' concentration on people's experiences and hampered their understanding of them. The creation of the reality of informal work, through the postulates on it and the methodologies established to identify it, have given rise to a fictitious homogenization of the world of informal work.

Keywords : informal work; performativity; ethnography; sociology of work.
