Abstract

PALMA RANGEL, Manuel. Microeconomic Reform and Institutional Arrangements: Economic Competition Policy in Mexico. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2007, vol.69, n.1, pp.39-68. ISSN 2594-0651.

Why and how did the Mexican government reform the economic competition policy? This study holds that the explanations based on problems of collective action and institutional capacities are revealing yet insufficient. The article highlights the role of distributional coalitions and the specific contents of policy, showing that the reform was not only based on economic reasons, but also on political and ideological considerations.

Keywords : political reform; economic competition; economic policy.
