Abstract

POZAS HORCASITAS, Ricardo. For the First Time, the Present was Modern. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2006, vol.68, n.2, pp.265-289. ISSN 2594-0651.

The text reviews the symbolic and cultural construction process of Christianity, up to Catholicism as the hegemonic world picture that bulids up the representation of modernity as differenciating element vis-à-vis the immediate past, so as to highlight the value of the present. The work follows up the consolidation process of the ecclesiastical institution and its relationship with the political power. Such process entails the writing of the Christendom apology as a new version of the world that resignifies the past and turns it into the old, as well as into the tradition in front of which the processes identified as modernity are differentiated.

Keywords : modernity; Catholic religion institutionalization; religious power; secular power.
