Abstract

ARTEAGA BOTELLO, Nelson. A socio-historical Approach to Poverty in Three Communities of Mexico. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2005, vol.67, n.4, pp.661-685. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article criticizes the indicators for measuring poverty, particularly those that have been developed and applied in the state of Mexico, specifically in three communities in the municipality of Toluca. The aim is to go beyond the discussion on the variables and measuring techniques that have been used to construct the indicators, questioning the internal logic of construction, which begins by regarding poverty as a state rather than a process. This sort of criticism involves public policies which are based on these poverty indicators.

Keywords : poverty; indicators; socio-historical approach; public policies.
