Abstract

SANDOVAL BALLESTEROS, Irma Eréndira. Neoliberal Interventionism and Financial Deregulation: Institutional Evolution of the Banking Sector in Mexico. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2005, vol.67, n.3, pp.593-631. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article examines three important moments in the development of the Mexican banking sector: nationalization, privatization and "privatizing nationalization". It argues that the neoliberal model in Mexico has implied reshaping of the State rather than its retreat. Also, the hypothetical dissolution of interest groups under neoliberalism has not been possible because of the emergence of new "distributional coalitions" and interest groups organized around new political commitments.

Keywords : financial deregulation; State; coalitions; interest groups.
