Abstract

MILLAN, René  and  GORDON, Sara. Social Capital: An Interpretation from Three Classic Perspectives. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2004, vol.66, n.4, pp.711-747. ISSN 2594-0651.

This article presents the three central perspectives that have given rise to most of the empirical and conceptual developments of social capital, which are also its most frequent reference. The authors describe the advantages and disadvantages of the concept and reveal their contributions to the debate. The analytical proposals of Coleman, Putnam and Lin belong to different intellectual traditions which must be delimited to reveal both the limitations and the distinctive, irreducible main features of each trend.

Keywords : social capital; public asset; civic compromise; networks; trust; individual resources.
