Abstract

PORTES, Alejandro. Sociology on the Continent: Past Convergence and a New Agenda with a Medium-Sized Scope. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2004, vol.66, n.3, pp.447-483. ISSN 2594-0651.

The article examines convergencies in the practice of sociology in the United States and Latin America, critiques past reliance on grand theory, and advances a research agenda based on a set of mid-range concepts stemming from recent developments in economic sociology. Implications for the future of the discipline in both parts of the hemisphere are discussed.
