Abstract

ORTIZ HERNANDEZ, Luis  and  GRANADOS COSME, José Arturo. Violence Towards Bisexual, Lesbians and Homosexuals in Mexico City. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2003, vol.65, n.2, pp.265-303. ISSN 2594-0651.

The fundamental premise of this article is that the violence experienced by bisexuals, lesbians and homosexuals (BLH) may be the product of the gender system, from which three dominant ideologies are derived: adherence to gender stereotypes, andro-centrism and heterosexism. To explore this hypothesis, the authors interviewed 506 BLH in Mexico City. Their findings showed that the homosexual and bisexual men interviewed were victims of violence more often than the bisexual and lesbian women surveyed.

Keywords : bisexuals; lesbians; homosexuals; violence; gender.
