Abstract

PENA MARTINEZ, Juan; GARCIA CHAMOCHO, Elena; PEREZ LOPEZ, Raquel  and  ROSALES CONRADO, Noelia. Learning chemical reactions in Secondary Education through cooperative activities. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.3, pp.68-79.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.3.76110.

In this research, we propose a didactic sequence for teaching chemical reactions in secondary education, which includes two different cooperative learning activities. The first one aims to work the differences between physical change and chemical change, and the second activity intends to consolidate the experimental job that was carried out in the laboratory. A total of 43 students completed a questionnaire to assess the experience and the methodology used. Results show that around 80% of the participants are willing to learn in cooperative groups, nevertheless 30% of students pointed out that teachers should encourage that each team member equally participates and shares the workload. Cooperative strategies might be useful for teaching chemical reactions.
