Abstract

LOPEZ-FERNANDEZ, María del Mar  and  FRANCO-MARISCAL, Antonio Joaquín. Inquiry about the degradation of plastics with high school students. Educ. quím [online]. 2021, vol.32, n.2, pp.21-36.  Epub Oct 11, 2021. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2021.2.76553.

Plastic pollution represents a social and educational challenge that requires an urgent response. Scientific practice of inquiry is an adequate approach to face this problem in secondary school. It allows to develop investigatory skills and attitudes towards chemistry. This paper presents the findings of an inquiry about the degradation of plastics in the natural environment carried out with Spanish high school students (14-15 years old) who learned about their possible physical and chemical transformations, and their environmental impact.

Keywords : Inquiry; plastics; degradation; secondary education.
