Abstract

VERA-MONROY, Sulma Paola; MEJIA-CAMACHO, Alexander  and  GAMBOA MORA, María Cristina. C = CARBOHYDRATES: effect of the game on learning. Educ. quím [online]. 2020, vol.31, n.1, pp.23-35.  Epub Dec 22, 2020. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2020.1.68522.

The objective of the project was to develop cognitive processes in the students of the organic chemistry subject through the implementation and validation of an educational game as a didactic tool to facilitate the learning of the carbohydrate concepts. The experimental design was formulated with 111 students of the experimental group and 79 of the control group. The game included visual and textual features that facilitated the understanding. Validity was established by both, experts and academic indicators of effectiveness. The effect on learning was assessed through a pretest/posttest, with alpha of 0,85. Population homogeneity and differences between groups were established in contrast to Wilcoxon hypothesis and U of Mann-Whitney’s. The average scores of the experimental group increased by 2,6 points with regard to the control group. The indicators allow concluding that the tool motivates, improves academic performance, favours teamwork and foster the generation of suitable cognitive processes for learning.

Keywords : educational game; carbohydrates; academic indicator; cognitive processes and learning.
