Abstract

Sustainability is the mantra -"a word capable of creating transformation"- for the twenty-first century. In the face of challenges motivated by human growth, the adoption of a sustainable path for development in the future is necessary. Sustainability must influence particularly science and education. This special issue focuses on efforts towards sustainability in academia featuring descriptions of the recently proposed sustainability science and its particular application to chemistry research and education.
