Abstract

VIRUEZ SOTO, José Antonio et al. Acute lung injury related to immunoglobulin and platelet transfusion: Critical care obstetrics case report. Rev. Asoc. Mex. Med. Crít. Ter. Intensiva [online]. 2015, vol.29, n.2, pp.113-117. ISSN 0187-8433.

Transfusion related acute lung injury is a potentially fatal complication that occurs during or after six hours the administration of a transfusion or intravenous immunoglobulin, the reported mortality goes between 5-25%. Diagnoses is considered underestimated because of critical patients often have hypoxia related to pneumonia, sepsis o major surgery. We report the case of an obstetric patient with steroid-refractory thrombocytopenia that received intravenous immunoglobulin and platelet concentrates and developed acute lung injury, receiving respective treatment, fortunately with favorable evolution. The administration of blood products such as platelet concentrates and intravenous immunoglobulin have the risk of acute lung injury, that is the main reason considering pertinent preventive measures.
