Abstract
YBANEZ ZEPEDA, Elmyra. The Age and Sex Structure of the Main Mexico-U.S. Border Municipalities and Counties. Frontera norte [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.42, pp.31-53. ISSN 2594-0260.
The border between Mexico and the United States has been the site of important social and demographic transformations that are based on very rapid population growth. Using data from the 1990 and 2000 population censuses for Mexico and the United States, this article examines the demographic structures of the major pairs of municipalities and counties: Tijuana-San Diego, Mexicali-Imperial, Ciudad Juárez-El Paso, and Matamoros-Cameron. These pairs have a complementary demographic structure on both sides of the border. Mexican municipalities have a younger population due to their intense immigration flows. U.S. counties, on the other hand, have a higher percentage of an aging native population.
