Abstract

This essay presents the impulse that the social science can offer to a democratic ethos in the educational field. In this sense, it exposes some ethical and democratic implications in works of relevant social thinkers (Max Weber, Peter Berger, Jürgen Habermas, Immanuel Wallerstein and Richard Rorty). Second, the essay outlines a critical concept of education for the democracy. Finally, it presents a set of contributions of the social science to this type of education.
