This paper discusses the future of the University, the transformation of meaningless crossed by the socio-economic context and its impact on institutional identity, the identity of the professions and the identity of the University. The ideal types of University, whose sedimentados traits reach combined, not without contradictions, actually existing universities are mentioned. The above is intended to show how the conditions of the socio-economic context condition the various areas of identity in the future due to the sense and practices acquire processes University, to ignore any of them leads to a biased understanding and even misperception of how, today, policies arising from globalization condition training and mission of the University institution.
