Abstract
RUIZ-RAMIREZ, Juan; PEREZ-SALAZAR, Christian; CRUZ-KURI, Luis and HERNANDEZ-RODRIGUEZ, Gabriela Eréndira. Program used to calculate the relative efficiency of experimental designs. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.1, pp.97-100. ISSN 2395-8030.
In agricultural experimentation, frequently an experimental design is chosen according to particular criteria of the investigator. However, a test of relative efficiency (RE) is often not conducted to assess whether the used design is more efficient than another less complex design. For each of 12 sugarcane fertilization experiments, RE was calculated. It was found that for a substantial proportion (42%) of these experiments, the experimental design used was not the appropriate one. Because of this and to make calculation of ER easier and thereby avoiding the more cumbersome direct application of the corresponding formula, we developed free software “relative efficiency version 1” in the Java platform SE 6. Because of the importance of having a program that facilitates the calculation of the RE of experimental designs, we performed calculations of the RE through their corresponding formulae. We conclude that the “relative efficiency program version 1” is accurate and reliable for assessing RE of experimental designs. This contribution complements regular statistical software (which do not perform this more specialized statistical method).
