Abstract

The balance of liming and fertilization with nitrogen and zinc affects production of Brachiaria decumbens. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the response of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. to the application of lime, nitrogen and zinc in the production of dry matter. For this purpose, an experiment was set up in the UNESP/ FEIS, in Selvíria-MS, in a dystrophic Red Latosol, in the period from October/1996 to May/1997. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a factorial scheme 3 × 3 × 2, with four replications. The treatments comprised three doses of nitrogen: 0, 50 and 100 kg ha-1, three doses of lime: 0, 267 and 556 kg ha-1, corresponding to the levels of base saturation 41, 50, and 60%, respectively, and two doses of zinc (0 and 5 kg ha-1). The forage was cut 10 cm from the soil four times with intervals of 49 days to obtain dry matter yield. The response of Brachiaria decumbens to liming occurred in the presence of nitrogen only in the fourth cutting, while nitrogen application had an immediate effect, increasing dry matter yield of forage during the first three cuts. The addition of zinc did not increase the dry matter yield of Brachiaria decumbens.
