Abstract

ARELLANO-GARCIA, Marco A. et al. Natural and Forced Ventilation in Almeria-Type Greenhouse and its Relationship to Tomato Yield. Terra Latinoam [online]. 2011, vol.29, n.4, pp.379-386. ISSN 2395-8030.

The virus transmission risk caused by insects, has forced to establish anti-aphids mesh in the entrances of the natural ventilation greenhouses. Nevertheless, this has brought a problem in the reduction of the efficiency of the greenhouse climate control. The Almeria greenhouses natural ventilation is one of the climate control tools more economical in this region. Its decrement will generate problems of diseases and a drop of crop yield and quality. The solution to the reduction of natural ventilation was the installation of forced exhaust fans, to increase the renovations of air or at least to equal the previous condition (without anti-aphids mesh). In this research, the natural and forced ventilation with 15 and 30 air renovations per hour were studied. The results of the study indicated that the air renovations studied in the forced ventilation did not make a significant change in the greenhouse control microclimate. It was found that the fruit yield was not affected by the forced ventilation. Therefore, the forced ventilation did not improve the greenhouses microclimate control.
