Abstract

SANTOS, Henrique Machado dos  and  FLORES, Daniel. Preservation of digital archival documents: reflections on the use of open standards in collections. Investig. bibl [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.74, pp.35-53. ISSN 2448-8321.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iibi.24488321xe.2018.74.57905.

This paper provides a reflection on the use of open standards within collections, specifically with regard to software, file formats and management and preservation systems, exploring requirements of a preservation policy for the production and preservation of documents. The applied methodology deployed in this research entails a literature review from which data is gathered and subjected to qualitative analysis, which moves from the general to the specific, i.e., from examining the scope of digital preservation to the strategies and policies in order to argue the importance of using open standards.

Keywords : Open standards; Digital document; Digital preservation; Access in long-term.
