Abstract

GOMEZ CORREA, Juan Camilo; BURITICA CESPEDES, Pablo  and  SALAZAR YEPES, Mauricio. A review of the Uredinales collected on Cordia (Boraginaceae) in Colombia. Rev. Mex. Mic [online]. 2012, vol.36, pp.41-48. ISSN 0187-3180.

In this review, a study of Uredinales (rust fungi) parasitizing the genus Cordia L. (Boraginaceae) in Colombia was performed based on samples deposited at the Museo Micológico at Universidad Nacional de Colombia sede Medellín (MMUNM). This work provides an updated view of this group of rust fungi and suggests the presence of four species in Cordia spp. Puccinia cordiarum, the teleomorphic state of Uredo cordiarum, is proposed as a new species of the order Uredinales. Recent collections from different provinces of Colombia have allowed a significant increase in samples of Cordia spp. and a concomitant improvement of the understanding of the biology and geographical distribution of this important group of plant pathogens.

Keywords : biodiversity; plant pathology; nogal cafetero; Puccinia; rust fungi.
