Abstract

TORRES FALCON, Marta. The New Face of an Old Phenomenon: Human Rights and Human Trafficking for Purposes of Sexual Exploitation. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.89, pp.95-129. ISSN 2007-8358.

Human trafficking, considered a contemporary form of slavery, is an old phenomenon redefined by globalization. This article offers an analysis of sexual exploitation, combining both gender and human rights perspectives. The first part deals with sexual exploitation as an extreme form of gender violence, describing the context of vulnerability and the sequence of activities: capture, transport, and exploitation. Then the author analyzes the main human rights instruments created for this problem. Her conclusions emphasize the patriarchal pacts that sustain and create the conditions for continuity of this grave social scourge.

Keywords : vulnerability; gender violence; human trafficking; human rights; international instruments; legislation.
