Abstract

ARANDA ANDRADE, Marco Antonio. Reclaiming Utopia: A Pragmatic Take on the Concept from the Standpoint of Neo-Zapatismo. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.85, pp.101-129. ISSN 2007-8358.

In this article I explain a pragmatic sociological proposal about Utopia, with important political implications for the study of social movements. Based on the review of some practices of neo-Zapatismo in Germany and the Spanish State, I present Utopia as the product of a dual movement. That is, it is the result of a reflexive solution of organizational challenges that enable ideals whose function is the normative orientation of resistance efforts, plus the negotiated search for directions along which to build alternatives to explore the frontiers of social change in the face of the order challenged by the actors.

Keywords : Utopia; pragmatism; neo-Zapatismo; transnationalism; contentious collective action; Spanish State; Germany.
