Abstract

RAMIREZ PAREDES, Juan Rogelio. Musical Traces of Violence: The "Altered Movement" in Mexico. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.77, pp.181-233. ISSN 2007-8358.

This is a study of the self-styled "altered movement" in Mexico. It posits that the appearance of this phenomenon is the result of the confluence of the internal evolution of Mexico's traditional corridos and the social and cultural decomposition the country is experiencing. The author recognizes the "sick corridos" as the musical heart of the "altered movement," while the social and cultural deterioration allows for the scandalous presence of drug traffickers in this "movement," at least through the lyrics of the "sick corridos." The analysis of the "altered movement" confirms the presence of a culture of violence in music.

Keywords : violence; culture of violence; sick corridos; altered movement.
