Abstract

NUNEZ, Maribel. An Approximation from the Point of View of Alfred Schütz's Phenomenological Sociology to the Transformations of the Experience of Alterity in Contemporary Societies. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.75, pp.49-67. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article aims to recuperate Alfred Schütz's proposals about the different ways in which the "other" is presented to us as significant, and attempts to open a brief dialogue with the theoretical perspectives that delve into the cultural tendencies that have produced transformations in the way in which we experience "others" in contemporary societies. It attempts to show how Schütz's proposal, which argues the existence of structures of meaning that allow us to interpret and classify others as near or far, can be infused with historical content, so that it is possible to put forward the idea of how the limits of the spheres of the intimate and the alien in the processes of individualization in today's societies are traversed.

Keywords : private-public; us-them orientation; intimacy; narcissism; alterity; individualism.
