Abstract

GARCIA ANDRADE, Adriana. Positioning an Academic Network and Constructing Research Objects: The Cases of the Body and Love. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.74, pp.7-32. ISSN 2007-8358.

This article presents a theoretical-methodological proposal for observing an academic network and its position in a scientific space. The network's existence is verified with indicators like co-authored articles, a common project, shared suppositions, and the recover of ideas among its members. Its positioning can be observed by using Bourdieu's proposal on scientific capital. This is exemplified using Bryan Turner's network, which occupies an important position on topics related to the body and love in the English-speaking world. The article finalizes by tracing the specific way network members deal with the topics of the body and love, since, using Bourdieu's premise, the dominant actors set the rules of the game: what is important to study and how to study it.

Keywords : academic network; Bourdieu; love; body.
