Abstract

ECHEVERRIA, Martín. Cibercampañas e inclusión ciudadana. Del potencial cívico de los sitios de campaña en las elecciones legislativas de 2009. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2010, vol.25, n.72, pp.71-108. ISSN 2007-8358.

Internet sparks big expectations about its electoral uses and potential for democratization, though in practice socio-economic and political limitations get in the way of fulfilling them. This article contributes to the debate about the civic usefulness of campaign websites, looks at the viability of important electronic campaigns in Mexico and the role they played in the 2009 legislative elections, and evaluates the structure of these sites in specific electoral scenarios. It concludes that these sites are civically very useful since they offer complete information, mechanisms for interaction, and usability, although how sophisticated they can be depends on the level of technological development.

Keywords : Internet; electoral campaigns; politics; content analysis; 2009 elections; internet media; campaign websites.
