Abstract

VIDAL DE LA ROSA, Godofredo. Herejías democráticas: William Riker y el estudio de la manipulación de la política democrática. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.70, pp.13-41. ISSN 2007-8358.

William H. Riker is one of the United States' most influential political scientists of the second half of the twentieth century. Inexplicably, his work is virtually unknown south of the Rio Grande, and there are no translations of his main contributions to the theory of democracy and the study of republicanism. Riker offered a notably unorthodox formal, positive version of democratic processes worthy of our attention both because of its prejudices and its profound insights about the failings of modern democracies.

Keywords : William H. Riker; rational choice; American Political Science; Rochester School; Democratic Theory; herestetics.
