Abstract

GIROLA, Lidia. Imaginarios socioculturales de la modernidad. Aportaciones recientes y dimensiones del análisis para la construcción de una agenda de investigación. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.64, pp.45-76. ISSN 2007-8358.

In recent years there have been many debates about the characteristics of modernity. As a result, a strong distinction has been proposed between the modern imaginary of the industrialized countries of the West and the different socio-cultural imaginaries emerging from the articulation and contradiction among the cultural matrixes of origin and the modernization processes in other latitudes. The first part of this article explains the current state of the discussion about modern social imaginaries through comments on a book by Charles Taylor. In the second part, the author suggests a series of Latin American authors who can contribute to developing a research agenda about the social perception of modernity in Mexico and Latin America.

Keywords : social imaginaries; modernity; Latin America; multiple modernities.o.
