Abstract

LEGORRETA DIAZ, María del Carmen. Organización y cambio en haciendas y comunidades agrarias de los valles y cañadas de Ocosingo, Chiapas, de 1930 a 1994. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2007, vol.22, n.63, pp.111-145. ISSN 2007-8358.

Two historical processes stand out in the twentieth-century social interaction between Tzeltal Indians and the Ocosingo oligarchy. The first was the existence during most of the last century of a form of seigniorial organization. The second was the difficult structural change into a modern society that took more than 50 years. Taking this into account, the central question this article asks is what kind of regional organization took place and how did the haciendas and communities in the valleys and ravines of Ocosingo, Chiapas change between 1930 and 1994?

Keywords : haciendas; change; Ocosingo; Chiapas; power relations.
