Abstract

MENDEZ, Luis. Modernidad tardía y vida cotidiana. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2005, vol.20, n.58, pp.53-75. ISSN 2007-8358.

If by daily life we understand the world of objectifications in themselves (language, habits, the use of objects), the universe of activities that characterize the reproduction of particular men that creates the possibility of social reproduction, the infinite number of routines that provide the elements for building a stable social order, the space where identities are affirmed, in this article, I propose to demonstrate the enormous difficulty involved in explaining from this vision the febrile, uncertain, contingent and individualized daily life in the world of late modernity and, as a result, the need to define in a different way the profiles of an unstable daily life, ruled by ambiguity and ambivalence.

Keywords : late modernity; daily life; habitus; routinization; identity; spaces of anonymity.
