Abstract
GONZALEZ OROZCO, Carolina and FLOREZ YEPES, Gloria Yaneth. Physical vulnerability in housing on the periphery in Manizales, Colombia. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.3, pp.935-976. Epub Nov 21, 2022. ISSN 2448-6515. https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v37i3.2022.
The historical, constructive and socioeconomic contexts in the Sierra Morena neighborhood in Manizales (Caldas, Colombia), a community vulnerable to natural phenomena of landslides, floods and damage were analyzed. Methodologically, a descriptive analysis was made, evaluating the conditions of the exposed elements (houses and people) in terms of specific threats in their surroundings. The results related to the physical vulnerability of the dwellings are linked in a similar way to the characterization of high and very high landslide hazard. The types of construction determine the high vulnerability, susceptible to external factors, whether due to landslides, floods or other risks; and at the same time, indicating that the inhabitants do not take into account the risk situation or measure the human or socioeconomic losses that could be generated.
Keywords : types of risks; threat; exposed elements; constructive typologies; physical vulnerability.
