Abstract

MARCOS, Mariana  and  RIO, Juan Pablo del. Habitat types in Buenos Aires: Settlement process, demographic structure and residential conditions. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.3, pp.889-933.  Epub Nov 21, 2022. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v37i3.2045.

Habitat types are urban environments resulting from the settlement process of the city and the forms of production of the living space. The article aims to investigate the way in which habitat types are linked to the demographic profile, the characteristics of the housing stock and the metropolitan location market in Buenos Aires, based on recent census data. As a result, the housing conditions are des-cribed in the light of the genetic variants of the settlement process, and the contrasts, similarities, hierarchies and distances among urban environments are highlighted.

Keywords : habitat types; settlement process; location markets; demographic structure; urban structure; housing; metropolitan area; Buenos Aires.
