Abstract

NAVARRETE, Emma Liliana; TRUJILLO, Armando; GARROCHO, Carlos  and  CADENA, Edel. A spatial statistics approach to explore the geodemography of the NEET in the Metropolitan Zone of Mexico City. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2020, vol.35, n.2, pp.369-403.  Epub June 30, 2020. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v35i2.1862.

We examine the geodemography of NEET (not in education, employment or training) inside the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City with spatial statistics. As far as we know, the literature on NEET do not report studies with our statistical approach. We explore four key questions: How many are they? Where are they? How is explained their spatial distribution? Does accessibility to employment and education opportunities affect the presence of NEET? Given the seminal nature of our approach, we address the questions with a socio-spatial vision, without making, for now, deep cuts of variables such as sex, schooling and other characteristics of the home of NEET. The results open new research paths.

Keywords : NEET; geodemography; multivariate spatial statistics; intra-urban; México City.
