Abstract

REYGADAS, Pedro  and  REYNA JIMENEZ, Óscar Felipe. The Battle for San Luis: Water or Gold? The Dispute against the San Xavier Mining Company. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2008, vol.23, n.2, pp.299-331.  Epub Aug 30, 2019. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v23i2.1313.

This article refers to the socio-environmental urban conflict between the civil society of San Luis Potosí and the San Xavier Mining Company in Cerro de San Pedro (1995-2007). The descriptive methodology of argumentative discursive analysis is applied to the actors’ different schematizations of “assets”, “water” and “cyanide” to shed light on the topology of the positions found, outline the nuclei of their representations and understand them as a substantial part of the confrontation within an urban political process that combines local, national and international levels.

Keywords : socio-environmental conflict; argumentative topology; argumentative phases; schematization; water; cyanide; assets; mining; San Luis Potosí; Cerro de San Pedro; civil society.
