Abstract

RIOS, Diego Martín. Changes in the Production of Residential Urban Space on the Periphery of the Metropolitan City of Buenos Aires. A case study of the municipality of Tigre. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.3, pp.701-729. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v21i3.1245.

The expansion of closed suburban communities has become one of the key factors in the private production of residential urban space on the periphery of the metropolitan urban space of Buenos Airs since the 1990s. The analysis of this process reveals the state’s role in the private (re)production of space and therefore the capital. The author considers that the analysis of a case study (the closed mega suburban community Nordelta in the municipality of Tigre) sheds light on the specific ways in which public and private initiatives interact in the current production of urban space.

Keywords : production of urban residential space: closed suburban communities; public and private actors; Nordelta; Municipio de Tigre.
